Many women have a glowing look during pregnancy as their hair gets fuller and thicker. They hope to maintain the glow and this hair type after pregnancy but experience a hair fall out after having your newborn. Hormones are responsible for the hair loss and not the stress of having a newborn.

Drastic hormonal changes take place during pregnancy. Human Chorionic and Gonadotropin (HCG) is the first spike that shows you are even pregnant. Postpartum hair loss which can also be referred to as telogen effluvium, telogen gravidarum or excessive hair shedding is a period after childbirth when the hair of a woman falls off and according to the American Pregnancy Association, this affects about forty to fifty percent of women.
Postpartum Hair loss can take place anytime from the moment of the delivery of your baby and it can take as long as a year for it to be resolved. It usually reaches its peak in the fourth month after delivery of your baby and sometimes, it seems as if it is happening all at once.
Postpartum Hair loss is totally normal and doesn’t require treatment or need for you to panic. There is nothing that can prevent or slow down postpartum hair shedding from happening but if after one year of childbirth you are still experiencing hair shedding, then there are treatments you can try.
Use volumizing shampoo
Regular shampoo can make your already vulnerable hair to look thinner and weigh it down but you can opt for a volumizing shampoo that will add more weight and a shiny look to your hair.
Skip the styling
Heat is a “no-no” especially during the postpartum period when your hair is at risk of falling off. The use of curling iron or dryer can make your hair look thinner. It will be advisable to skip the heat method and let your hair air-dry till the period resolves itself. Skip the styling!
Eat a lot of fruits and veggies
Eating enough fruits and vegetables can improve the health of your hair. Sweet potatoes and carrots are known to be very effective. On the road to making sure your hair gets all the nutrients it needs, you have to include fruits and vegetables in your diet.
Avoid brushing too hard
You have to take it easy on the brush. Brushing your hair too hard can make your hair fall off, so you need to be gentle when brushing and make sure not to brush more than once daily.
